Code 8600 Kazakh Shirvan Antique Connoisseur 200x132cm Hand knotted

RM15,900.00

This extremely finely crafted Caucasian Shirvan rug presents an extraordinarily successful and incredibly cohesive artistic vision. Instead of using the arch format commonly seen in rugs of similar design, it presents a captivatingly rhythmic allover design that invests each of the many faceted, flamelike rosettes with an ambitious assortment of unexpected yet evocative colour juxtapositions.

The rug’s palette is potent, deeply saturated and quite wide-ranging, balancing a luminous antique parchment ground against intensely memorable tones of rare teal green, pink, saffron, claret and sapphire blue. Excellent pile condition brings a luxurious state of preservation to this master tribal weaver’s creation, while also enhancing the crisp clarity and impact of its essential geometric motifs.

Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain range and is to the east of Gendje and to the west of the Baku peninsula. Local weaving tradition in this region excelled in exploring the numerous possible variations using a limited palette of color to maximal effect.
