The design is particularly fascinating because it does not depend on rigid repetition. Instead, a succession of large geometric tribal medallions travels down the long central field, with each medallion displaying a different interpretation of traditional Caucasian forms. Diamonds, shield-like shapes, hooked outlines, stylised flowers and angular botanical motifs create an almost totemic composition. The medallions appear connected along an invisible central axis, giving the runner a strong sense of rhythm and direction.

One of the most charming aspects is the abundance of small tribal motifs scattered throughout the field. The colour palette is beautifully restrained. A warm natural ivory and oatmeal ground allows the motifs to breathe, while madder-inspired brick reds, terracotta, rust, deep indigo, muted blue, soft green, brown and touches of golden ochre provide contrast. Against the pale field, these natural colours have an aged, almost archaeological quality reminiscent of much older Caucasian carpets.

The border construction is particularly distinctive. A strong rust-coloured inner border filled with angular hooked forms surrounds the central composition, while narrower geometric guard borders provide additional definition. Most unusual is the broad pale outer area, where numerous tiny individual motifs appear almost like tribal pictograms surrounding the carpet. Animals, plants, geometric devices and small human-like forms give this outer section tremendous personality and make the runner appear almost like a woven record of tribal life.
