Description
This unique hand-woven flat-weave kilim from Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia, is a beautiful expression of the region’s traditional nomadic weaving heritage. Measuring 223 × 152 cm, it has a distinctive character created through bold horizontal bands, intricate geometric motifs and the natural irregularities that make handmade textiles so appealing.
The kilim is woven entirely from wool on a wool foundation, giving it a strong yet naturally textured construction. Natural dyes have been used throughout, producing a rich palette of deep burgundy, midnight blue, warm yellow and soft ivory. Rather than appearing overly uniform, these colours have warmth and depth that complement the organic quality of the wool.
Its design is particularly captivating. Repeated tribal geometric motifs run across the kilim in decorative bands, separated by expressive stripes of colour. The subtle variations in the weaving and lines are characteristic of genuine handwork, ensuring that this is an individual piece rather than something mechanically reproduced.
As a flat-weave kilim, it has no raised pile, making it lighter and highly versatile. It can work beautifully in a living room, dining area, study or contemporary interior, especially alongside natural timber, leather, neutral upholstery or minimalist furniture. Flat-weave kilims are also valued for their practicality and durability in everyday spaces.
For care, vacuum it gently without a rotating brush, rotate it periodically to encourage even wear, blot spills promptly, and avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight.
